Avani Ramnani Quoted by MoneyGeek on Finding the Best Life Insurance
How do I know whether an HMO, PPO or other type of plan is best for me?
- How flexible are you about seeing your current doctors? Usually, HMO plans offer access to a restricted list of providers, or they may be restricted by geography. HMO plans may also have little or no access to providers that are out-of-network. However, premiums in HMO plans are likely cheaper than other types of plans.
- How often do you see your providers? It’s important to consider whether you are consistently healthy throughout the year and only see providers for annual preventative check-ups or do you tend to see your providers more consistently throughout the year. Depending on the co-pays, deductibles and co-insurance requirements, if you have more healthcare needs, it might be better to go with a plan that has lower ongoing charges per visit to the provider.
