Stacy Francis, certified financial planner and CEO of Francis Financial, was quoted in a Psychology Today article about the dangers of financial stalking – a partner who monitors what the other person is doing with their money without their permission.
Financial Stalking goes beyond monitoring of money spent – oftentimes the stalker makes disparaging remarks about how the victim uses their money. The stalker does this to leverage themselves over their victim, entrapping them in their financial situation and stopping them from achieving financial literacy and freedom.
It is not easy for a victim to escape or remedy this situation, but there is a way out. “Getting one’s finances in order and becoming financially literate can help the victim understand the severity of the situation, how to get help, and how to achieve financial independence,” Francis adds.
